Extra is always a pain. Foods that can cause cancer.
‘Everything causes cancer’, this phrase has become a very popular hyperbole. This statement is used by some people as a rhetorical fodder to excuse their own lifestyle and diet failures, especially when they are pertained to cancer risk. Well, the truth of the matter is that many common foods have shown to increase cancer risk substantially.
Use your diet as a strategic ‘weapon’ against cancer –
Your diet can tweak to help lessen the risk of developing cancer down the road. You must have probably heard the advice to have at least five servings a day, or eat to lots of vegetables and fruits, to help fight the chronic disease – cancer. Besides knowing which foods to eat to help prevent cancer, you must be aware of which foods to avoid.
Say a big ‘NO’ to these –
- Microwave Popcorn –
You wouldn’t think for a minute that those little bags of popcorn, which are so very convenient to just stick into the microwave, could be dangerous to your health, but the fact is that they are. Chemicals which are defined by EPA – carcinogens, are present in the lining of the bags, and lead to pancreatic and liver cancer, and tumors. Also popcorn itself is a chemical which can cause cancer.
- Non-organic fruits –
Non-organic fruits are contaminated with unsafe fertilizers and pesticides, which are toxic chemicals to insects as well as human beings. Washing these fruits does not remove 100 percent of the residue. Be aware while buying apples, oranges, strawberries and grapes from the store, as if unless these are organic, they could be a major cancer risk.
- Processed Meats –
This is a very long list that includes hot dogs, bacon, sausages, lunch meats like pimento loaf or baloney, which contain numerous chemical preservatives, which make them look appealing and fresh, but they hold high risks of causing cancer. Be sure to buy uncured meat products free from nitrates and prefer from grass-fed sources.
- Farmed Salmon –
Although fish sounds like one of the best possible healthiest foods, farmed salmon is one you should avoid for sure. The fish, besides being contaminated with chemicals, pesticide, antibiotics and other carcinogens, they are fed unnatural diets.
- Hydrogenated oils –
Starting from the point that all hydrogenated oils are vegetable oils, these oils cannot be naturally extracted and must be chemically removed from their source, and then they are deodorized and colored, to look appealing and to be more acceptable to the consumers. They contain high levels of Omega-6 fatty acids, which are known to increase cancer.
- Soda Pop –
Loaded with artificial colorings, sugar and food chemicals, no wonder soda pop has been shown as one that causes cancer. The soda pop acidifies our bodies, thus feeding cancer cells.
- Highly processed white flours –
In many processed foods, refined white flour is present, which has very high glycemic rate that quickly raises the blood sugar levels, and not to mention it is believed to spread cancer cells by feeding them directly.
- Genetically modified organisms –
The GMO’s, are foods that have been grown with chemicals and modified by chemicals. Almost all grains, including wheat, corn and soybeans have been grown via GMO’s. These result in rapid tumor. So look for labels that state – ‘food is GMO free’.
- Refined Sugars –
Refined sugars which are known to spike insulin levels, also promote the growth of cancer cells, as these cells prefer to feed on fructose-rich sweeteners like the HFCS, since the HFCS are metabolized most quickly and easily by the cancer cells. Since cakes, cookies, pies, sauces, sodas, juices, and many more processed foods are loaded with refined sugar, cancer rates are on the rise these days, so avoid them.
- Diet Anything –
Foods labeled as ‘diet’ or ‘low fat’, including frozen food, prepackaged foods or even diet sodas contain aspartame, a chemical – artificial sweetener, which is known to cause cancers.
- Potato Chips –
Besides being full of excessive sodium and Trans fat, potato chips have numerous preservatives, artificial sweeteners and colors. These are fried at high temperatures to make them crispy, but at the same time, this causes them to make a material named acrylamide, a carcinogen, which is known to cause cancer.
Stay alert –
Well, it’s definitely not something you think about every day, whether or not the foods you eating could contain cancer causing chemicals, but perhaps it’s time to look at what is in our food that could be causing such a large number of cancer patients.
